Ace is the place for paperless rebates

Ace Hardware Corp. has joined the ranks of retailers eliminating paper rebates.

In April, Ace Hardware, No. 456 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, introduced “Click Don’t Clip,” a web-based program that gives shoppers that sign up for its customer loyalty program the option of submitting their rebate forms online.

Instead of clipping UPC codes from the merchandise they bought at an Ace Hardware Store, making copies of the receipt and then mailing the form back to the manufacturer, shoppers can now sign up for “Click Don’t Clip” and submit their rebate form online.

The program is open to members of Ace Hardware’s customer loyalty program, which also provides members with other perks such as in-store discounts, advance notice on sales events and rewards points.

Since the program began more than 80,000 customers have submitted a rebate form online, which represents about 15% of all rebate submissions, the retailer says.

“The average rewards and the number of items have been higher with online rebates than printed or paper rebates,” says an Ace Hardware spokesman. “The process is easier for customers.”

Other retailers and consumer brand manufacturers that offer online rebate programs include Hewlett-Packard Home & Home Office Store, No. 5 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, and OfficeMax Inc., No. 6.
