Promotions follow a change at the top of Jones Apparel Group
Just days after replacing its CEO, Jones Apparel Group Inc. has promoted Cynthia DiPietrantonio to chief operations officer and Norman Veit to executive vice president of management information services. The apparel maker last week announced that Wesley R. Card, chief operations officer and chief financial officer, had take over as CEO from Peter Boneparth, who left the company.
DiPietrantonio, who has been with the company for 24 years, will be responsible for the Bristol, PA-based operations group, which includes customer service, allocations, distribution and management information systems. She most recently had served as executive vice president of customer relations and corporate credit.
Veit, who was previously senior vice president of management information services, has been with Jones for five years. He previously was vice president of information technology at Ames Department Stores. He will report to DiPietrantonio.
Boneparth’s departure was not unexpected, as the company had said earlier in the year it would not renew his contract, which was to expire in 2009. In his last major deal, Boneparth last month announced the sale of Jones’ Barneys New York Inc. unit to a Dubai private equity firm for $825 million.
Like many apparel manufacturers, Jones has been struggling to grow as its major department store customers consolidate. Jones last year reported sales declined $331 million from just over $5 billion in 2005 to $4.74 billion in 2006, largely a result of the sale of the Polo Jeans Company. Sales at the company’s e-commerce sites, NineWest.com and EasySpirit.com, grew 23% to $18.7 million in 2006, according to Internet Retailer estimates. Jones is No. 303 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
