Men are more likely than women to shop online for Valentine’s Day

Men are more likely than women to buy their Valentine’s Day gift online, reports a new consumer survey from Discover Card. 22% of men in Discover’s Valentine’s Day Shopping Survey said they are inclined to buy a Valentine’s Day gift online, while 15% of women said they would buy online.

65% of consumers will buy their gifts a week or more before Feb. 14, but 10% will wait until the last day, the survey reports. 39% of women said they plan to spend nothing on their boyfriend or husband for Valentine’s Day.

The survey also reports that men who plan to purchase a Valentine’s Day gift will spend an average of $127, 72% more than women, who plan to spend an average of $74.

Even for a Valentine’s gift, women are bargain hunters: 40% said coupons or rebates would play a role in shopping decisions for Valentine’s Day, whereas 35% of men take such factors into consideration.
