Content sharing and sales platform CornerWorld signs Napster deal
CornerWorld.com—a social networking and business management destination slated to launch this summer—has signed an agreement to distribute original music content uploaded to the site by its members to Napster.com for sale.
“We are committed to forming alliances with best-of-breed companies, like Napster, so our members can achieve the greatest exposure to true and new audiences, and profit from their original work,” says Scott Beck, CornerWorld Corp. CEO.
Specifically, under the contract Napster Inc. receives non-exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute original music content from CornerWorld as a part of its subscription service and digital music store. Napster is No. 108 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
CornerWorld is the planned successor to Cornerband.com, an online music community that promotes and securely distributes downloadable music from emerging artists. CornerWorld will be an interactive web-based platform for the creators of original digital content across a variety of formats, focused on the sharing, promotion and distribution of content from pictures to files to music and video, according to a statement from the company.
The platform will allow its members to share and stream content originated by both amateurs and professionals. Members will be able to send and receive e-mails on the platform, engage in live chat and create interactive classified ads and invitations, according to CornerWorld.
It’s an online advertising-supported model. CornerWorld also will share in revenue generated by the online sale of member-generated content. The company’s strategy also includes business management services for members with sellable content. This includes online tools that will give content creators the ability to control how their content is promoted, managed and distributed, from a central location on the site, according to a company spokeswoman.
