Wal-Mart opens free web-based service for aspiring movie makers
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has launched a free web-based service that allows users to create and share personal mini movies made from personal digital photos.
The Wal-Mart Mini Movie—developed by Sequoia Media Group—is available in English and Spanish. Registered users can choose from numerous themed templates, including Vacation, Wedding, Sports, Family, Celebrations and All Occasion. Once a theme is chosen, users can select six photos and add a title. A coordinating movie poster also is automatically generated. The process takes about one minute.
The program can be accessed and downloaded via the web at http://vocuspr.vocus.com/VocusPR30/Url.aspx?514582x2977x453533. It also is available at any Wal-Mart Photo Center and is included on Wal-Mart Photo Center promotional disks and Fujifilm digital album photo disks.
During the past few months, users of the interactive trial web site have created tens of thousands of movies that received hundreds of thousands of views, Sequoia says.
Wal-Mart and Sequoia also are releasing a full-length DVD movie product called myMovieMaker in 3,5000 Wal-Mart stores. MYMovieMaker uses Sequoia’s aVinci technology to enable consumer to create DVD movies using in-store Fuji kiosks for as little as $12.86.
Wal-Mart is No. 13 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
