UPS’s Q2 U.S. packages and revenue remain flat while global revenue grows
Second quarter revenue at package delivery company United Parcel Service of America Inc. rose 3.9% to $12.19 billion from $11.73 billion a year ago, the company reported today. Net earnings reached $1.104 billion, up 4.05% from $1.061 billion a year earlier. Operating profit reached $1.77 billion, up 4.1% from last year’s $1.7 billion.
In the U.S., UPS’s package revenue reached $7.58 billion, up 1.6% from $7.46 billion a year earlier. The company handled 13.23 million packages a day, virtually flat from 13.25 million in Q2 a year earlier. Operating profit in the U.S. was $1.19 billion, down from $1.23 billion a year earlier.
In the international sector, Q2 revenue was $2.5 billion, up 12% from a year earlier. The company handled 1.8 million packages a day, up 4.6% from 1.72 million in Q2 a year earlier. Operating profit in the international division was $475 million, up 14.7% from $414 million.
In the supply chain and freight operation, revenue was $2.11 billion vs. $2.04 billion a year earlier and operating profit was $98 million, more than double the prior year Q2 profit of $47 million.
"The company`s total performance reflects the benefits of our truly global network," says Mike Eskew, chairman and CEO. "Strong gains in our international package segment offset a lack of growth in the U.S. business. We`re also executing well in our supply chain and freight business and are pleased with the profit improvements in this segment. We remain confident in the long-term growth prospects that the dynamic global marketplace offers UPS."
