DESCARTES LAUNCHES DYNAMIC INVENTORY SOURCING SERVICES WITH SAMEDAY
Descartes Announces Equity Position in Sameday, Embeds Technology Into
DeliveryNet Solutions
WATERLOO, ONTARIO, March 6, 2001 - The Descartes Systems Group Inc.,
(NASDAQ:DSGX)(TSE:DSG.), a leading provider of global Internet logistics
solutions, announced today the launch of the first end-to-end dynamic
inventory sourcing solution for organizations looking for a competitive
advantage in Just-In-Time manufacturing, critical parts sourcing and
after-market spare parts management. The complete solution will let users
gain visibility and control over inventory - in motion and at rest - of
unallocated inventory and allocated inventory.
Descartes also announced today a strategic alliance and equity
position in Sameday, a developer of rapid-response product distribution
software. Descartes will integrate Sameday`s Syntempo inventory sourcing
technology into its complete Internet-based inventory management solution.
"Organizations are looking for real-time management of their
inventories, whether they are in motion or in a multi-site warehouse
environment," said Willem Galle, COO, Descartes. "We chose Sameday for its
ASP approach to inventory management, which complements and enhances
Descartes` complete order-to-cash inventory and logistics solution."
The resulting solution to be marketed by Descartes will offer
a unique network-based dynamic inventory sourcing solution providing
organizations real-time visibility into their in-transit inventories as well
as those at rest in multi-site warehouses and depots.
"Sameday offers the Syntempo suite of rapid-response product
distribution software to enterprises looking for a hosted suite of order
sourcing and inventory distribution solutions," said Alex Nesbitt, President
and CEO, Sameday. "Combining Descartes` market leading inventory and
logistics visibility capabilities with Syntempo`s strengths in inventory
availability and order sourcing will benefit organizations looking to gain
increased control across their order-to-delivery process."
Descartes is one of five companies that have taken equity
positions in Sameday, which to date has raised US$45 million in equity
financing. Other investors include Accel Partners, TH Lee.Putnam Internet
Partners, The IGNITE Group and idealab! Sameday will use the proceeds to
broaden the deployment of its technology across partners, fund ongoing
development and enhance supply chain services for its growing list of
Fortune 100 customers.
