Mother’s Day spikes record order rate at 1-800-Flowers.com
Mother’s Day traffic drove orders up to a record high of more than 800,000 orders for the holiday, between April 30 and May 13, reported 1-800-Flowers.com. The Westbury, N.Y.-based multichannel flowers and gift merchant said 5 million shoppers visited the site for the holiday, placing orders for more than 500,0000 floral arrangements, 150,000 live plants and thousands of gourmet food and gift items. The record order rate during peak days is one of the highest among gift retailers and underscores its ability to scale both order taking and fulfillment capabilities, the company says. “Mother’s Day has always been our biggest holiday and this year was no exception,” says CEO Jim McCann. “Given the continued soft economy and the widely reported weaknesses in consumer demand throughout the retail sector, we couldn’t be more pleased with these results.”
