Mobile coupons reach mostly young adults in southern states, study says
Marketing with coupons delivered through web-enabled cell phones connect mostly with consumers aged 18-34 in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area of Florida and other metropolitan areas, Cellfire Inc. says in a new study.
Cellfire provides mobile coupons from retailers including Hollywood Video and Virgin Megastores that consumers can redeem in stores by showing a coupon code on their phone screen to a store clerk. The coupons also can be used for online purchases by giving the code to a call center agent of a participating retailer like 1-800-Flowers.com. Cell phone users receive the coupons through a software application downloaded to their phones from Cellfire.com.
In its study, based on mobile coupons redeemed during the six-month period ended June 30, Cellfire found that the largest amount of coupons, or 68%, were redeemed by mobile shoppers between the ages of 18 and 34, followed by 18% redeemed by shoppers aged 35 to 44.
The top 10 metropolitan areas for redemption of mobile coupons, according to Cellfire, are:
Miami/Fort Lauderdale, FL
Sacramento/Stockton/Modesto, CA
Chico/Redding, CA
Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
Waco/Temple-Bryan, TX
El Paso, TX/Las Cruces, NM
San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose, CA
Jonesboro, AR
West Palm Beach/Fort Pierce, FL
Atlanta, GA
