Amazon’s CustomFlix renames itself CreateSpace for broader on-demand market

CustomFlix Labs, a unit of Amazon.com Inc. that produces CDs and DVDs on an on-demand basis for publishing clients, has changed its name to CreateSpace to reflect its move beyond movies to include additional content like music and books.

"Since we`ve expanded our mission and launched several new services, we`ve outgrown the CustomFlix name," says co-founder and managing director Dana LoPiccolo-Giles, adding that CreateSpace now serves an expanded base of independent content publishers. "CreateSpace is a reflection of our new direction and commitment to addressing the self-publishing needs of the larger indie community."

CreateSpace, located at CreateSpace.com, caters to publishers who prefer not to maintain inventory of CDs and DVDs, but instead produce them on-demand as orders are placed. CreateSpace makes physical CDs and DVDs available for sale through Amazon.com and other retail channels; it also produces video on-demand for download through Amazon’s Unbox service.

Amazon.com is No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
