NPD INTELECT* ACQUIRES POINT-OF-SALE TRACKING DIVISION OF PC DATA
NPD INTELECT* Market Tracking, a
joint venture of The NPD Group and GfK AG, has acquired the point-of-sale
tracking division of PC Data, the Reston, VA-based provider of market
research for the computer hardware and software industries. The acquisition
of PC Data`s strong presence within the software industry extends NPD`s
existing family of services and strengthens its position as the leading
provider of marketing information for the technology industry. It will also
further the synergy of service offerings between NPD INTELECT in the U.S.
and its partner, Gfk, in Europe.
With the acquisition, NPD completes its software tracking portfolio, adding
point-of-sale tracking for all segments of the industry. Prior to the PC
Data purchase, NPD monitored video gaming and interactive entertainment
software sales only. The transaction complements NPD`s existing family of
products for the industry and launches the company as the primary industry
source for business and consumer software tracking data.
Further strengthening NPD INTELECT`s position, the firm will assimilate PC
Data`s core assets to provide the most accurate and actionable information
to date on industry sales, pricing, inventory levels and more.
Additionally, NPD INTELECT will pool resources to execute an effective
transition plan to continue to meet the needs of former PC Data clients.
