Consumers Still Shopping Online Despite Slowing Internet Economy
New York, NY/March 20, 2001 - eMarketer`s eCommerce:B2C Report, which aggregates data from more than 100 research organizations and was released today, reveals that consumers spent $59.7 billion online last year, compared to $30.1 billion in 1999, a 98% increase.
eMarketer projects B2C global e-commerce revenues will reach $101 billion by year end, rising to $167 billion in 2002 and $250 billion by 2003.
"Despite all the negative press online shopping has received lately, we`re seeing that consumers continue to purchase over the internet," said Geoff Ramsey, eMarketer CEO. "Those B2C companies who deliver on the e-consumer need for convenience and customer service support will survive the current economic slide."
"Companies around the globe and across all industries are leveraging the internet to achieve business efficiencies and deliver new levels of customer care," added Ramsey.
The 335-page eCommerce:B2C Report offers the most comprehensive and detailed look so far at the state of B2C e-commerce around the world today. Containing 567 charts, this eMarketer Report paints a picture of a market that is growing at an exponential pace, undeterred by deflated technology stock prices and the failure of many internet start-ups. It covers the 28 leading economies worldwide, including countries in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
