Temptations Review performing at IR2006 Conference

Internet Retailer has signed the Temptations Review with Dennis Edwards as the featured entertainment for a “Motown Review Banquet” that will be the primary networking event of the Internet Retailer 2006 Conference & Exhibition to be held in Chicago June 5-7.

Edwards is a five-time Grammy award winner and former lead singer of the Temptations, the group whose decade-long string of hits, such as “Papa Was A Rolling Stone,” “Just My Imagination,” and “Can’t Get Next to You,” helped define Motown Records as a hit machine and made the Temps one of the most beloved rock groups of the 1960s and ‘70s.

Sponsored by FedEx, the Temptations Review performance is the dramatic finale of the Motown Review Banquet, a full evening of great food and entertainment that is scheduled for June 6, following the first full day of IR2006 conference sessions and after exhibit hall hours.

The IR2006 Conference is expected to draw more than 2,000 e-retailing professionals—the largest ever for an online retailing event. All paid conference attendees are invited to attend the Motown Review Banquet, which is included in their $795 two-day conference registration fee. “We’re Internet Retailer—the e-retailing content people—and the primary purpose of our conference is to provide business intelligence to e-retailers through the presentations of 75 expert speakers covering all key e-retailing topics,” says publisher Jack Love. “But that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun, and the Motown Review Banquet will offer our many attendees a great opportunity to network with their peers as they eat great food and listen to some of the best soul sounds of the 1960s. Who doesn’t love the Temps?”

Those familiar with the Temptations tumultuous history will remember Dennis Edwards as the lead singer of the group who replaced the late David Ruffin in the late 1960s. His smooth but powerful voice gave the Temptations a distinctly funkier and more soulful sound, which was immediately evident on the group’s 1968 Grammy-winning “Cloud Nine” hit single. With Edwards, the Temptations also made their mark in a convulsive era in which rock music made strong social statements, as the Temps did with their 1969 hit “Papa Was A Rolling Stone.” Says Love: “I’m a huge fan of the Temps and am thrilled to have the Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards to entertain our conference attendees.”
