Scholastic appoints a new head of operations


Scholastic Corp. has named an executive with a deep background in direct marketing and e-commerce fulfillment as the company’s senior vice president of operations.

Scholastic, No. 41 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, has hired Thomas K. Hoekzema to be in charge of the company’s national service organization, which handles warehouse operations, distribution and customer service. He also will oversee Scholastic’s logistics operations.

Most recently Hoekzema served as vice president of operations for Direct Holding Worldwide, where he managed a multi-company operations center for Time Life Music & Books, Lillian Vernon and other distributors. Prior to Direct Holdings, he held senior roles at BMG Direct, including senior vice president of operations and president and CEO of its BeMusic Services division. He has also worked as senior vice president of worldwide operations for Softbank Services and Newfield Publications and was national manager, distribution systems for Avon Products Inc.

Hoekzema will report to Scholastic executive vice president, chief administrative officer and CFO Maureen O’Connell.
