Softricity Aligns with Digital Island to Enhance Network Server Base for Broader Deployment of Software As A Service

Alliance Enables Softricity to Rapidly Grow New Customer Base

BOSTON, Mass., March 26, 2001* A new alliance between Softricity, the pioneer in carrier-class application management and delivery platforms, and Digital Island, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISLD), the leading provider of managed Internet infrastructure, will enable software applications to be deployed and delivered over Digital Island`s global eBusiness Delivery Network. Softricity will develop new services for its highly scalable Open Application Services (OAS) architecture to integrate with Digital Island`s network. This arrangement allows Softricity broader customer reach and expanded business opportunities.

This alliance is part of a continuing move by Digital Island to extend the use of its existing investments in internet infrastructure by enabling diverse, new services to be deployed that leverage the company`s existing investments in global network, hosting and content delivery. Software as a Service (SaaS), emerging as a significant new capability for Content Delivery Networks, goes beyond static storage of content to make use of the processing power of thousands of servers and caches located around the world.

"Softricity is a pivotal player enabling the offering of Software as a Service," said Wes Mitchell, Director of Application Services for Digital Island. "By working with Softricity we are increasing our value to existing customers and opening the door to add new business opportunities."

Softricity`s cost effective, highly scalable platform maximizes server capacity and performance and will allow Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to utilize Digital Island`s Content Network for rapid deployment of Softricity`s architecture. This initiative poises Softricity for immediate, substantial leadership in the Software as a Service market.

Softricity`s architecture dramatically reduces service providers` software infrastructure and management costs without effecting user experience. Service providers can then utilize this architecture to deliver software applications in a scalable, manageable, and secure way. Leveraging the capabilities of Softricity`s technology and Digital Island`s eBusiness delivery network, customers (ISVs, IT outsourcers and other service providers) will be able to improve the cost, performance and management of distributed applications. The applications run as though they were locally accessed, with the added support and advantages of central management and timely, cost-effective updates. The software is delivered to client devices in a continuous, on-the-fly manner for maximum application responsiveness.

"Softricity`s Open Applications Services (OAS) architecture enhances the delivery and scalability of Software as a Service, while improving the economics critical to service providers looking to provide software to thousands of employees in corporate or remote offices," said Harry Ruda, CEO of Softricity. "Our ability to integrate our technology with a superior CDN architecture - such as Digital Island - will enable both parties to deliver rich software services to leading edge customers, providing a true, scalable application delivery network."

Softricity is bringing to the market a unique platform for management and delivery of Software as a Service. The OAS architecture supports best of breed delivery architectures, including but not limited to, client- and server-based computing models. Its comprehensive management console supports centralized management functions such as on-demand provisioning, licensing, and support. The platform`s XML-based open API structure allows the service providers to fully integrate third-party OSS/BSS functionality level agreements.
