BroadVision Ships J2EE-Enabled Version of E- business Application Platform
BroadVision One-To-One Enterprise 6.0 Offers Industry’s Highest Level of Support for Open Standards
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.—March 30, 2001 — BroadVision, Inc. (Nasdaq: BVSN), a leading provider of personalized e-business applications, today announced that it is now shipping BroadVision One-To-One® Enterprise 6.0, the next generation of BroadVision’s advanced, scalable e- business application platform. In addition to significant performance enhancements and new deployment options, BroadVision One-To-One Enterprise 6.0 adds Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE™) support for Enterprise JavaBeans™ (EJB™) component architecture, JavaServer Pages™ (JSP™) technology and Java Servlet application programming interfaces (APIs). The new Java technology-based features make BroadVision One-To- One Enterprise 6.0 one of the most open e- business application environments available. Other standards supported include JavaScript™ technology, C++, COM, CORBA, XML, XSL, LDAP, WML and WAP.
The next generation of BroadVision’s e-business applications – including BroadVision InfoExchange Portal™, BroadVision MarketMaker™ and BroadVision Retail Commerce™ -- is already in development on the new platform. The 6.0 versions of all of BroadVision’s applications will leverage the Java technology features found in BroadVision One-To- One Enterprise 6.0. In addition, BroadVision One- To-One Enterprise 6.0 was designed to be binary backward compatible with BroadVision’s previous version (version 5.5) applications. This compatibility is designed to ensure that existing BroadVision implementations can be migrated to the new platform with little or no modification.
Customers and system integration partners with early access to the new platform confirm easy migration of their existing BroadVision applications and are developing new functionality using J2EE technologies. Shop At Home, Inc. is one of the first customers to work with BroadVision One-To-One Enterprise 6.0. Working with BroadVision Global Services (BVGS), Shop At Home was able to upgrade their collectibles.com site, currently live on BroadVision version 4.1 software, to BroadVision Retail Commerce™ running on the version 6.0 platform in just five days. The new implementation is currently running in a test environment that duplicates Shop At Home’s production environment.
“We were impressed with how quickly and easily we were able to transition our existing site to BroadVision One-To-One Enterprise 6.0,” said Bob Miller, vice president of information technology for Shop At Home. “We’re very excited that we will be one of the first BroadVision customers to go live on the new version.”
Key BroadVision system integration partners have also received early access to the new software, including Accenture, Context Integration, Hewlett- Packard, iXL, Leapnet, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Roundarch.
Leapnet has been exploring the Java technology features available in the new software, concentrating on using JSP for customization. “Many of our developers require greater flexibility and openness when integrating custom Java components with the powerful BroadVision One-To-One Enterprise framework,” said Ron Markham, senior vice president of Leapnet’s technology business unit. “As the first system integration partner to have the opportunity to work with version 6.0, Leapnet is thrilled with the power and performance of One-To- One Enterprise 6.0 and what it will allow us to accomplish on behalf of our clients.”
Context Integration has been using the new features to develop a Java-based integration of BroadVision One-To-One Enterprise with configuration software from Selectica. “BroadVision One-To-One Enterprise 6.0 lets us offer our customers more innovative customizations based on J2EE technology,” said Stephen Sharp, CEO of Context Integration.
Roundarch will leverage the J2EE capabilities of the software to architect sophisticated customer relationship management (CRM) solutions. “BroadVision One-To-One Enterprise 6.0 will be an excellent addition to Roundarch’s best- of-breed approach to enabling robust CRM solutions,” said Tom Lindberg, vice president of products and services at Roundarch. “As the world moves to integrated, multi-channel e-business and CRM solutions, BroadVision offers us a sophisticated, function rich, open standards- based technology platform to build upon.”
BroadVision One-To-One Enterprise 6.0 also includes new features that make it easier to design, build and maintain sophisticated systems with enhanced debugging and system monitor tools. A thin-client API allows developers to quickly create new interfaces that allow non-programmers to modify BroadVision business rules. A new persistent cache mechanism delivers improved performance and scalability for BroadVision-based e-business solutions.
