WindWire and NextBus Connect Wireless Advertisers to Commuters; Mobile Public Transportation Application Increases Advertising Opportunities for Local Retailers
WindWire, the leading provider of wireless advertising and
marketing solutions, today announced that NextBus has joined
WindWire`s wireless ad network to generate advertising revenue.
WindWire`s network enables local businesses to take advantage of
NextBus`s technology to target consumers based on their specific
location. For example, using NextBus`s technology, a morning commuter
can determine exactly how much time they have before the next bus
arrives. With a few minutes to spare, an advertisement from the nearby
dry cleaner might prompt that commuter to stop in.
NextBus Information Systems` wireless application is one of the
most useful services within the mobile environment, providing high
value information to both passengers and managers of public transit.
Using satellite technology, NextBus calculates predicted arrival times
and transmits real-time information to the wired and wireless
Internet. NextBus currently offers transportation information about
public transit including buses, trains and ferries in Boston, MA,
Emeryville, CA, San Francisco, CA, and Rehobeth Beach, DE.
Demonstration projects are underway in Queens, NY and Pittsburgh, PA.
"NextBus`s content is the ideal advertising vehicle for local
retailers," said David Wilson, vice president of marketing for
WindWire. "Leveraging the WindWire network, ads served on NextBus can
be time- and location-specific, creating unprecedented efficiency in
reaching consumers, driving new sales and branding opportunities."
"WindWire`s advertising network provides an additional way for us
to generate revenue," said Jim Maresca, CEO of NextBus. "Advertising
revenue allows us to subsidize the cost of installation at transit
authorities throughout the country. We can offer lower fees for our
system, while helping those who depend on public transportation plan
their travel time more effectively."
The addition of NextBus to WindWire`s ad network increases the
roster of customers, which already includes leading mobile sites such
as 555-1212.com, Excite@Home, go2 Systems, Salon.com, and The Sports
News. WindWire provides mobile marketing technology and media sales
services for these customers, facilitates the wireless ad serving for
these sites and works with leading interactive advertising agencies
and independent advertisers to develop wireless marketing programs.
WindWire was the first provider of wireless solutions that enable
advertisers to reach consumers who are surfing the Wireless Internet
using cell phones, PDAs and two-way pagers. WindWire`s technology
serves relevant advertisements based on the type of content the
consumer is pulling from the Wireless Internet. WindWire is the first
to deliver a true wireless ad serving solution to advertisers,
agencies, carriers, and wireless publishers, turning the Wireless
Internet into a highly effective advertising medium.
