Partnership will offer enterprises and contact centers competitively priced
"out-of-the-box" speech-enabled communications solution
INDIANAPOLIS (April 10, 2001) - Interactive Intelligence Inc. (NASDAQ: ININ)
signed an OEM agreement with Nuance (NASDAQ: NUAN) allowing Interactive
Intelligence to pre-package Nuance`s speech recognition and voice
authentication software with its interaction management software.
The two companies first formed a technology alliance in 1999. The OEM
agreement strengthens this alliance by enabling Interactive Intelligence to
more directly address the needs of enterprises and contact centers for cost
competitive voice-enabled solutions.
"We chose Nuance because of its excellent record in speech recognition
accuracy, multi-lingual support and its integrated voice authentication
capabilities," said Dr. Donald E. Brown, president and CEO of Interactive
Intelligence. "We`re excited to take our relationship to a new level, giving
customers a more competitively priced, tightly integrated communications
solution."
Added Steve Ehrlich, vice president of marketing for Nuance: "The joint
Interactive Intelligence and Nuance solution reduces costs and increases
reliability while enabling the emerging customer service standard of
speech-enabled IVR."
Interactive Intelligence`s open, software-based interaction management
solution includes a digital PBX, automatic call distributor, soft phone,
unified messaging and other communications applications, along with a highly
customizable, speech-enabled interactive voice response system. This IVR
gives customers the option of speaking into the phone to conduct business
transactions or to make inquiries instead of using numeric key presses on a
phone pad.
Timemac Solutions Ltd. (ASX: TML), an Australian Internet technology and
investment company, has already deployed technology from Interactive
Intelligence and Nuance to offer customers stock information and real-time
trading via a speech-enabled IVR.
IVR systems benefit customers by enabling them to interact with companies
seven days a week, 24 hours a day. For companies, IVR can reduce costs and
increase productivity by decreasing live agent interactions. Companies are
also realizing the safety benefit to mobile users of speech-enabled IVR for
hands-free phone operation while driving a vehicle.
The Interactive Intelligence and Nuance solution is being marketed and sold
through Interactive Intelligence`s global channel of more than 140
resellers. Target customers are mid to large-sized Fortune 500 companies in
interactive intense industries such as finance and retail. The solution is
also being marketed and sold to service providers as an IVR voice portal for
large subscriber bases.
Interactive Intelligence plans to offer speech-enabled unified messaging and
personal assistants by the end of this year.
