New ways to meet customers’ needs

These mass merchant e-retailers in this year’s Hot 100 are rolling out a steady stream of features that spur shoppers to make a purchase.

Zazzle constantly finds new ways to make customization fun. This summer it updated site navigation so that a shopper planning an event like a wedding can click the Shop Experiences tab to find a slew of product ideas centered around a theme, product or even the wedding-related occasion, such as the rehearsal dinner. And there are ample designs to cull through because the merchant's seller community creates and posts more than 150,000 new designs every day. The retailer is also constantly seeking out new products, with a particular focus on small manufacturers, says Jeff Beaver, co-founder and chief product officer. The retailer also aims to make its site easy to navigate, regardless of the device shoppers are using, which is why it revamped its site this year using responsive design.
