New ways to meet customers’ needs

These mass merchant e-retailers in this year’s Hot 100 are rolling out a steady stream of features that spur shoppers to make a purchase.



Why They're Hot: is a web-only mass merchant sometimes described as the Brazilian version of Inc. The web site offers products from more than 30 categories with strong emphasis on books, CDs, DVDs, electronics, computers, mobile phones and online games. The e-retailer recently began merchandising computers and consumer electronics with video clips. Consumers can access video content through the quick-view module on category landing pages, or on individual product pages. The videos, which typically run about a minute, are hosted on YouTube. Video content is provided by the manufacturer—for example, Samsung Electronics provides the video content for pages selling its Galaxy phones—but videos are customized with Submarino branding.
