Sharp sites for the productivity set

Hot 100 retailers that sell office supplies are working hard to wow customers with expanded product lines and personalized web shopping features.

Why They're Hot:

In the midst of the retailer's efforts to expand its SKU count—it aims to have more than 1 million SKUs on its site by mid-2015—Staples introduced a redesigned site in the fall aimed at making it fast and simple for shoppers to find what they're looking for. When a shopper signs into the site, he can view all his past orders, reorder items he's purchased in the past and view his "favorites" with a single click. The retailer also improved its site search to return results in the half the time it previously took, cut down the number clicks needed to complete a purchase and cut its average page load time in half. "We looked at what our customers expect and kept what features were relevant and eliminated those that weren't," says Faisal Masud, executive vice president, global e-commerce.
