Leading the mobile charge

This year’s hot 10 mobile retailers have responded to the increasingly mobile consumer with hot new features in designs for their m-commerce sites and apps, along with in-store mobile device deployments.

Why They're Hot:

Sephora pioneered the use of mobile devices in stores to facilitate store sales. The merchant outfitted its stores in early 2012 with iPads, which let customers access: Color IQ, an app that matches a woman's skin tone with matching foundation products; Beauty Studio Lookbook, information on in-store services; and Beauty Studio Reservations, to manage appointments. Also, 800,000 of the merchant's Beauty Insider members have added their Sephora loyalty cards to Passbook, Apple's mobile wallet for use in stores. These customers spend twice as much and buy twice as frequently as average Sephora customers. "Retailers must understand what appeals to their customers, And be willing to take risks, measure results and continually adjust to find the right fit," says Bridget Dolan, vice president, interactive media.
