New ways to meet customers’ needs

These mass merchant e-retailers in this year’s Hot 100 are rolling out a steady stream of features that spur shoppers to make a purchase.

Online retailer Rue La La's shopping philosophy is to give consumers an exciting, interactive experience that goes beyond designer merchandise at members-only prices, says the company's new chief marketing officer, Robin Domeniconi. Earlier this year, Rue La La added a series of videos featuring celebrity chefs preparing their favorite recipes and worked with paint manufacturer Benjamin Moore to create color palettes meant to spark shopper creativity. It also partnered with cable TV channel FX to feature looks inspired by the "American Horror Story" series. "We truly believe the future of e-commerce lies in the ability to merge curated content and commerce to provide context and a point of view for our members, while ensuring a seamless experience on every platform," Domeniconi says.
