Leading the mobile charge

This year’s hot 10 mobile retailers have responded to the increasingly mobile consumer with hot new features in designs for their m-commerce sites and apps, along with in-store mobile device deployments.

Why They're Hot:

With 90% of its mobile traffic coming from from iPads and iPhones, flash-sale e-retailer One Kings Lane went on an Apple iOS developer hiring spree in 2013. Few retailers can match these developers' first offering: a universal iOS app. The app works on smartphones and tablets, and renders content based on the device on which it is opened. The elegant and powerful iOS app focuses on navigation by image and includes the new "hamburger" mobile design technique (where touching the three-lined hamburger-like icon pushes the page to the right, revealing a column of additional navigation options and features). "Creating a universal app ensured a unified code base and key feature parity across devices," says David Yu, chief product officer. "We believe in apps, which offer faster shopping than the mobile web."
