New ways to meet customers’ needs

These mass merchant e-retailers in this year’s Hot 100 are rolling out a steady stream of features that spur shoppers to make a purchase.

Why They're Hot:

Groupon Goods, the direct-to-consumer physical goods retail arm of daily-deal operator Groupon Inc., reached more than $454 million in web sales in its second year. Much of that growth resulted from its ability to grow off its parent company's brand name and customer e-mail lists. But though Groupon Goods sticks to fairly simple merchandising, it doesn't just rely on the power of its brand. It makes shopping for its broad and constantly changing product assortment an easy affair, with ample product details and features like an Ask a Question button on each product page that lets shoppers post questions and view queries entered by others, with Groupon's responses. Want to know if those Lady Gaga-designed headphones work with your Android phone? Goods has the answer.
