|Why They're Hot:
Six giant image frames fill the home page of startup shoemaker and e-retailer Greats Brand. Launched in August 2013, the merchant offers only six SKUs, so there's no need for a search box or navigation, says co-founder Ryan Babenzien. Great Brand aims to keep visitors' focus as much as possible on the product. Product pages feature an image of the shoe, an Add to Cart button and a diagram of the inner workings of the shoe's nine parts—leather toe cap and nylon elastic laces, for example. All orders come from word of mouth, as the merchant hasn't invested in marketing. "It's been going incredibly well," he says. "We reached our first month's projected sales in the first 30 hours of being open." The company is currently comprised of only two employees—Babenzien and co-founder Jon Buscemi.
