The e-retailers selected for the Hot 100 are nurturing sales by investing in personalization technology that helps consumer find the titles they are likely to enjoy.

Why They're Hot:

The film industry has made a side business of creating movie trailers. Publisher Chronicle Books is dipping into similar waters by developing book trailers to help market its titles. The videos feature authors describing their books and include vivid photos and other images contained in the publications. A two-minute trailer for Boo: The Life of the World's Cutest Dog has attracted more than 1.6 million views. The web site is tidy, well-organized and offers a gift finder broken into 18 categories, including age groups and readers' favored subjects. The web site, which carries books and e-books, also offers a personalization service for children's books. Parents, for example, can have their daughter's name appear on the cover and as the lead character of a book about princesses.
