A country music legend combined with Pinterest led to more site traffic this year for Bourbon & Boots. The startup that sells Southern-inspired, handmade gift items put its faith in a Johnny Cash necklace stamped with the lyric "I keep a close watch on this heart of mine." A consumer pinned an image of the product on Pinterest, and in the months since, other Cash fans pinned that image more than 1.5 million times. That helped the retailer attract as much as 15% of its traffic from Pinterest by summer. "The quality of the image is absolutely key," says founder Matt Price. "We don't have the luxury of having a beautiful showroom or sales assistant to assist in the sale of an item. All we have is the product description and the image."
