Bloomingdale’s will discontinue its catalog and focus on the web Upscale department store Bloomingdale`s will discontinue its mail order catalog by 2009 and focus its direct-to-consumer business on the web. The retailer says growth in its web sales has “far outpaced” catalog sales in recent years.

Consumers expect shopping will be a more connected experience by 2015 Most U.S. consumers expect that by 2015 they will be sharing ideas online with retailers, manufacturers and consumers and using their mobile phones more as a shopping tool, according to a survey by retail research and consulting firm TNS Retail Forward.

Shoppers go online to research home goods, but less than a third buy there 81% of online consumers say they use the web to read up on major household purchases, but just 31% of those consumers say they will buy such items online, according to a recent poll by PriceGrabber.com

Traffic to Circuit City climbs 39% in March, Nielsen says Unique visitors to Circuit City’s retail site grew 39% to about 12 million last month compared to March 2007, but it wasn’t enough to beat Best Buy, which ranked No.1 in traffic for multi-category computers and electronics retail sites, Nielsen says.

RealNetworks’ Q1 sales climb 14% to $147.6 million Q1 revenue for online entertainment services company RealNetworks Inc. rose 14% to $147.6 million from $129.5 million a year earlier. The company reports revenue increases in its games, music and technology and solutions units.

Performance-monitoring service provider Gomez files for an IPO Gomez could raise up to $80.5 million in working capital, but it didn’t mention details in its SEC filing. Gomez posted a net loss of $2.3 million on sales of $32.6 million in 2007, compared to net income of $591,000 on sales of $21.7 million in 2006.

Postal Service looks to expand package returns service with major carriers The U.S. Postal Service is hoping to expand its package returns service through major carriers UPS, FedEx and DHL, the U.S.P.S. says. Its sole returns partner for now, Newgistics, plans a major expansion of the service.

Yahoo partners with McAfee to alert web searches to risky sites Yahoo has launched a test version of its search tool with security technology from McAfee that alerts consumers to sites that may contain malicious software. The same results will also show sites certified by McAfee for a fee as secure from hackers.
