Best Buy’s head of international operations will retire at year-end

Robert A. Willett, a former Best Buy Co. Inc. chief information officer who helped develop the consumer electronics retailer’s multichannel and international strategies, will retire as CEO of Best Buy International on Dec. 31, the retailer says.

Willett oversees international operations that spread across Canada, Mexico, Europe and China, where Best Buy, No. 10 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, operates more than 2,800 stores, including close to 2,500 in Europe, and several e-commerce sites (a PDF version of the company’s financial and operating profile can be ordered by clicking on its name).

As corporate CIO for Best Buy, Willett has also worked on web-enabled store systems and supply chain systems designed to help Best Buy make faster merchandising and inventory management decisions.

Best Buy says it will not seek a replacement for Willett as CEO of Best Buy International. “The company has strong leaders and teams in every country in which it operates and is confident in their abilities,” Best Buy says.

Earlier this year, Best Buy appointed Neville Roberts to succeed Willett as corporate CIO, a position that Willett had held simultaneously with his position as CEO of the international unit. Roberts had formerly been CIO of Best Buy International.
