The Internet Retailer Online Retail Index was up only .13% last week, while the broader market advanced by more than 2%. But for the year, the index of 25 e-commerce stocks remains ahead by 80%, far outpacing the market as a whole.
Thirteen of the 25 stocks in the Online Retail Index advanced last week, led by online movie rental retailer Netflix Inc., while 12 declined. While e-commerce stocks tread water last week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 2.46% and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index 2.26%. For 2009 to date, the Dow is ahead 21.1% and the S&P 500 17.0%.
