RealNetworks hires a web veteran to expand delivery via the cloud

Online music and video retailer RealNetworks has named Hank Skorny senior vice president, media cloud computing and services.

RealNetworks, No. 96 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, says Skorny will head up its effort to build a set of products that leverage cloud computing to help make digital media available to consumers wherever and whenever they want. Cloud computing is a technology that enables a company to rent Internet-based computing power and data storage capacity, to support web-enabled applications.

"Over the past 25 years, Hank has been one of the great innovators in the PC, Internet, and mobile industries," says Rob Glaser, chairman and CEO of Real. “We're excited to have Hank serve on the senior executive team at Real."

Skorny has nearly 25 years of executive marketing, business development, and engineering experience. In the past, he has worked as CEO of Thumbspeed Inc. which was acquired by OZ Communications Inc. and subsequently acquired by Nokia. Prior to Thumbspeed, Skorny held senior executive positions at Infospace Mobile and AOL Mobile. He also has held management and engineering positions at Adobe Systems, Microsoft and Apple Inc.

"Real is ideally positioned to deliver products and solutions that allow people to access, discover and socialize the media from anywhere," says Skorny. "I am excited to work with the Real team to become the leader in innovation for media in the cloud."
