Buy.com launches new e-commerce sites and eBay stores in four countries

Online discount retailer Buy.com Inc. announced today the launch of dedicated e-commerce sites targeting Canada, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. The e-retailer says it plans to expand into Italy and Spain before the end of the year.

The new sites are in local languages and display prices in local currencies. Initially, the sites will sell computers, software and consumer electronics, and Buy.com says it plans to add more categories of products it will sell directly “as well as from local European retailers that are being added to our marketplace platform in each country.”

In order to deliver goods quickly in these new markets, Buy.com has established in-country warehouses in each market. And it’s offering free shipping on 99% of items purchased from the sites in the U.K., France and Germany; in Canada free shipping applies to orders over $30 if the items weigh less than 20 pounds. The new sites are: ca.buy.com for Canada, fr.buy.com for France, de.buy.com for Germany and uk.buy.com for the U.K.

In addition, Buy.com, which began last year selling on eBay, will sell on eBay sites in the new countries it is entering.

“We plan to replicate our successful online retailing model throughout the world,” says Neel Grover, President and CEO, Buy.com. “Like Buy.com’s U.S. roots, we’re introducing our core offerings in electronics first, but we plan to deliver robust product catalogs featuring a variety of categories and the same value-added services to our global customers.”

Buy.com is No. 33 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
