Redcats USA plans to shut down a Texas call center

Noting that more customers are buying online instead of through its catalogs, Redcats USA is closing its Universal City, TX, call center and eliminating close to 500 jobs there, the company says.

Redcats USA, No. 34 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, also attributes the closing, slated for Dec. 18, to the economic downtown and a decrease in customer activity stemming from the sale last year of its Chadwick’s, MetroStyle and Closeout Catalog brands.

Redcats says it will consolidate all of its customer contact center operations at its facility in El Paso, TX, where its costs are lower.

For the rest of this year, the company says, it will work with the Texas Workforce Commission and other local resources and employers to help the 490 displaced employees find new employment.

“It is important to note that the decision to close the Universal City operation had nothing to do with this outstanding team’s performance—it was strictly a business decision,” says Chip Edgington, executive vice president of operations.

New York-based Redcats, a unit of Paris-based Redcats Group, also operates retail brands including Avenue, Roaman’s, The Sportsman’s Guide, The Golf Warehouse and Brylane Home.
