Internet Retailer announced today that John R. Thompson, general manager of BestBuy.com, will deliver the Keynote Address at the Internet Retailer Web Design & Usability Conference, Feb. 15-17 at the Hyatt Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, FL.
Thompson’s address: “Best Buy: How all the elements of a web site create a stellar shopping experience,” will take place Feb. 16 at 8:30 a.m.
“Best Buy has adopted a deliberate approach to creating an outstanding web site. Our attendees will learn first-hand from the executive in charge of BestBuy.com how an engaging design, continuous improvement, well organized data and an m-commerce strategy have placed Best Buy at the forefront of today’s online retailers,” says Kurt Peters, editor in chief of Internet Retailer and developer of Internet Retailer’s conference agendas. “We are pleased to have an executive of the stature and experience of John Thompson delivering the Keynote Address at our third annual Web Design & Usability Conference.”
Previous Keynote Speakers at the Internet Retailer Web Design & Usability Conference have been Lindy Rawlinson, vice president of web operations and new business for Neiman Marcus, and Debbie Kristofferson, vice president of user experience for Walmart.com. Retailers who were unable to attend this year’s Web Design & Usability Conference can experience the conference on a CD-ROM with audio synchronized with slides.
The Internet Retailer Web Design & Usability Conference is the only conference devoted to helping online retailers create and execute effective web sites. This year’s theme, “Courting the Cautious Consumer,” gets to the heart of creating online sales in today’s competitive market where retailers must engage shoppers instantly and provide good reasons to buy then and there. With the ease of shopping online, retailers who don’t focus on design and usability will lose customers to merchants who know how to capture Internet consumers’ attention quickly and effectively, Peters says.
Few online retailers can illustrate the importance of good design and usability as well as Best Buy, No. 10 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, Peters says. During last year’s crucial holiday shopping period, Best Buy comp store sales in December were down 6.6% while web sales soared 34%.
Registration for the Web Design & Usability Conference will begin in mid-September.
