The Finish Line starts up an e-commerce division

The Finish Line Inc., a multichannel shoe and apparel retailer, announced today the creation of a business unit devoted exclusively to e-commerce.

The new unit will be headed by Donald E. Courtney, a 21-year company veteran who most recently was chief information officer and executive vice president of information systems and distribution. Courtney will report to CEO Glenn Lyon.

The new unit will include the Finish Line advertising, design and content team, which previously was part of the marketing department, and an operations team that had been in the information systems group. The aim of the e-commerce division will be to improve the customer experience and increase online sales and profits, the company says.

"We are committed to continuing to grow our e-commerce business and further develop a comprehensive Internet strategy in-line with our strategic direction," Lyon says. "We increased online sales by 14% in the first quarter and look forward to building on that growth by establishing a focused e-commerce division that integrates content with technology under the guidance of Don Courtney, an experienced and proven leader. Don built our technologically advanced distribution and information systems infrastructure, and we are confident he is the right leader to take our e-commerce business to the next level as well."
