Women’s apparel retailer The Talbots Inc. has named John Kovac to the newly created position of senior vice president and chief information officer. He will oversee information technology initiatives, including those relating to e-commerce, and report to Michael Scarpa, chief operating officer and chief financial officer.
Kovac joins Talbots from fashion designer and retailer Liz Claiborne Inc. where his positions included interim CIO, vice president of systems and operations, and vice president of information technology. He previously held senior computer services and technology positions at Morgan Stanley and CIT.
“John brings extensive expertise in aligning key business functions with strategic financial controls and technology solutions to improve a company’s performance,” Scarpa says. “We are very pleased to welcome John on board, as he will be instrumental in helping us establish critical financial and benchmarking practices that are necessary to operate in today’s economic environment.”
Talbots, No. 64 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, sells online at Talbots.com and JJill.com, and through 870 stores, 587 of them branded Talbots and 283 J. Jill.
