John Kelly, a former QVC merchandising executive who most recently served as chief merchandising officer at Circuit City Stores Inc., has returned to web and TV retailer QVC as vice president of merchandising for home furnishings. He reports to executive vice president and chief merchandising officer Doug Howe.
In his new position, Kelly will manage QVC’s home merchandising categories, including consumer electronics, wellness, cooking and dining in a multichannel environment. QVC, No. 11 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, sells on the web at QVC.com, through its QVC TV channel and five outlet stores.
“John brings strong credentials in strategic planning and implementation of sales and marketing plans for home and technology products,” says Howe. “His unique blend of traditional merchandising and Internet experience will play an instrumental role in growing various merchandising categories at QVC.”
At Circuit City, which is liquidating its assets through bankruptcy court proceedings, Kelly was responsible for merchandising strategies and oversaw multichannel retail development, including the transformation to new retail store concepts and new ways to interface with customers.
Prior to Circuit City, Kelly was vice president of home innovations for QVC, responsible for expanding its consumer electronics, home improvement, home style and home innovations categories.
Earlier in his 20-year career, Kelly served in management positions at Sharp Electronics Corp., where he was responsible for sales, marketing and product planning for the company’s consumer electronics division. He also worked at R.H. Macy Co. Inc. (now known as Macy’s Inc.) where he managed merchandising for the electronics division of 89 stores.
