FreshAddress Inc. announced yesterday a deal to buy the e-mail updating service from rival Return Path. The deal combines the two leading e-mail change of address services, says Bill Kaplan, CEO of FreshAddress.
“Now companies, nonprofits, and agencies will have one easy way to update their e-mail address databases with 100% of the e-mail address changes provided by consumers worldwide," Kaplan says.
FreshAddress will acquire in the deal Return Path’s lists of matching pairs of old and new e-mail addresses, hygiene technology, client and partner relationships and related patents. The deal is expected to close by mid-December. The purchase price was not disclosed.
Return Path, which recently acquired Habeas, a company that specializes in providing e-mail inbox providers with lists of reputable senders, will focus on e-mail deliverability services, says Matt Blumberg, CEO. “By selling our ECOA business to FreshAddress, our long-time esteemed competitor, our clients will realize a significant improvement in match rates and resulting revenue generation,” Blumberg says.
