The Container Store Inc. has joined the growing number of chains that let customers order online for in-store pickup.
The service is called GoShop! Click & Pickup, and is the latest in a series of the company’s GoShop!-branded services designed to make ordering and receiving goods from the chain as convenient as possible.
Online shoppers who choose the pickup option enter a ZIP code. The site displays the nearest store and notes that the consumer can change their preferred location at any time while shopping. When items are added to the shopping cart, the service checks their availability in the selected store. Customers can choose when to pick up the items, and pickup is free.
Container Store, No. 281 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, tested the program in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and found that consumers who ordered online for store pickup spent twice as much as those who placed web orders for home delivery, and three times more than customers in stores.
The company plans to promote the service with store signs, via direct mail and e-mail, with nearly 500,000 flyers that will be placed into shopping bags and boxes containing online orders, on the web and on 36 billboards. The company operates 44 stores around the country.
“We know that customers are looking for value-driven offerings in this economic climate,” says Kip Tindell, chairman and CEO of The Container Store. “GoShop! Click & Pickup is one more way to serve our important multi-channel customer during the holiday season. The service will save our customers valuable time with guaranteed in-stock product and, more importantly, save them money.”
