Cymax Stores Inc., a Vancouver, British Columbia-based online retailer of home furnishings and consumer electronics, continues to build on a home-grown .Net-based e-commerce platform and a single product database as it rolls out new names like ClubChairSelect.com on its way to 200 retail sites by year-end, says founder and CEO Arash Fasihi.
“We expect to keep going beyond 200 sites,” Fasihi says. “By mid-summer next year, we’ll take a look and see how we can continue growing.”
Cymax, No. 247 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, expects sales this year to grow about 40% year-over-year to within a range of $45- $48 million, Fasihi says.
Cymax specializes in building individual sites, each with its own web address, for narrow niches like sofas at EverySofa.com, game tables at FoosballSelect.com and dining chairs at MoreDiningChairs.com. One of the retailer’s more recent sites is MoreCurioCabinets.com, and it plans to introduce sites for cookware and is considering jewelry and apparel, Fasihi says. Cymax currently offers about 300,000 product SKUs, he adds.
Although much of its e-commerce technology is built in-house, Cymax also uses site search technology from Mercado to support the nearly 50% of its visitors that search for products on its sites, Fasihi says. Cymax uses information about the products customers search for as a basis for developing new niche sites, he adds.
