Mark R. Baker has stepped down as president and CEO of outdoors gear and apparel retailer Gander Mountain Co. to become president and chief operating officer of Scotts Miracle-Gro Co., a supplier of home and garden products. David C. Pratt, chairman of Gander Mountain’s board, will take over as interim CEO while the company searches for a permanent replacement.
"Mark's leadership enabled rapid growth in Gander Mountain's store count and our development into a multi-channel retailer, and we are thankful for his leadership of the company,” says Ronald Erickson, vice chairman of the board of directors. “We are fortunate to have an executive with David Pratt's experience to lead the company as we search for a permanent chief executive officer to execute our strategic plan.”
Gander Mountain, No. 213 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, expanded its direct marketing channel with the $70 million acquisition in December of outdoors gear retailer Overton’s.
Baker has agreed to remain with the company through Sept. 30.
