Click on an interactive video to purchase what’s featured

Interactive video company FlipSeek LLC has released an application that allows consumers to click on an item inside an online video to make a purchase.

Using Live Link Video, a retailer can develop a so-called hyper video in which viewers click on hyperlinked hot spots to get more information or buy an item, says Adam Marino, FlipSeek president. For example, a consumer watching a fashion show online could click directly on a model to purchase the outfit.

Live Link can be incorporated into a retailer’s commercials, video store tours or other video presentations. “They send us the electronic video and we convert it by layering over the hyperlinks and adding the captions to it, and then saving it as a Flash file so it’s compatible for everybody on the web to see it,” Marino says.

The files are then returned to the retailer for posting on its web site, he says.

If retailers don’t have their own videos, Live Link will work with them to set up a relationship with an ad agency, Marino says. FlipSeek also has a videographer who can work with retailers.

“Our specialty is really the conversion of video to the interactive video, but we can help them create the video also,” he says.

Retailers pay a on a per-project basis, although Marino declined to give details.

FlipSeek released Live Link Video Jan. 2 after two months of beta testing.
