YOOX sees third-party e-commerce services as the height of fashion

YOOX Group, an international online apparel and accessories retailer, is getting into the third-party services business.

The company, No. 123 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, has formed a new internal business unit – YOOX Services – and is looking to provide third-party e-commerce applications to other online apparel retailers, beginning in its home country of Italy.

YOOX Services, which also expects to market its third-party services in the U.S. next year, currently provides services for Marni, an Italian clothing and accessories retailer. Marni.com was launched on the YOOX e-commerce platform in the U.S. earlier this year and later expanded to include Japan and Europe. YOOX Services will next launch a new men’s wear site for Marni.

YOOX expects to have two more undisclosed retailers using YOOX Services by the end of the year. The unit’s third-party services include e-commerce platform management and support, order management, content management, and fulfillment. “We see a big opportunity for offering this type of service,” says general manager Andrea Moretti. “With YOOX Services, we have taken our worldwide platform and will build e-commerce businesses for some of the biggest fashion brands.”

YOOX Services charges an undisclosed set-up charge for its e-commerce services and an additional fee based on a percentage of sales. “Fashion brands have taken a very conservative approach to their online businesses,” says Moretti. “With YOOX Services, these brands get our knowledge of the e-commerce market, worldwide fulfillment and full platform management, including packaging, shipping, and returns processing.”

YOOX.com is an international web merchant with annual e-commerce sales of more than $84 million.
