Walgreen Co. is expanding the options customers have to upload film over the Internet and pick up the pictures later at a convenient location.
The retailer, No. 44 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, has a new relationship with Fujifilm U.S.A.
Consumers using Fujifilm’s "Get The Picture Online Service" network can now upload film from their computer or handheld device by clicking on YourPix.com, use a store locator to find a nearby Walgreens store and then complete the upload process. Online photo pricing starts at 19 cents per print, the retailer says.
The relationships with Fuji expands Walgreen’s mobile commerce program for uploading film. Fuji has networking connections with several major wireless carriers and web service providers, including Cingular, ALLTEL, Sprint (Nextel) Photoshare Service, Sprint Picture Mail Service, MSN communities, and Microsoft’s XP Online Print Wizard, Digital Image Library, Photo Mail and Photo Story.
"Digital photo customers across the country can get the convenience of in-store pickup at Walgreens, with the quality of prints associated with the Fujifilm name," says Dean Jarrett, Walgreen divisional merchandise manager for new business technology. "For example, a child’s birthday party photos sent through one of Fujifilm’s partners from Chicago can be picked up the same day by the grandparents in Florida at their local Walgreens."
Walgreen has said that about 80% of the photos uploaded online for processing are picked up in a store within a few hours. More than 1,500 Walgreens stores are open 24 hours and offer a photo pick-up service around the clock, the retailer says.
