U.S. e-commerce sales for QVC Inc. rose 24.6% in Q3 while total U.S. revenue rose by 11%.
For the quarter QVC, an operating unit of Liberty Media Corp. and No. 14 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, reported e-commerce sales of $219.5 million compared with web sales of $176.2 million for Q3 2005.
At the same time QVC’s total U.S. sales, which includes TV and the Internet, grew to $1.15 billion from $1.03 billion a year earlier. "We're pleased with the strength of the business across all product categories,” says QVC CEO Mike George. “We experienced balanced growth in the quarter which is reflective of the continuing strong execution by QVC." Overall the web accounted for 19% of domestic sales in Q3 vs. 17% a year earlier.
Also in the third quarter Liberty Media completed its acquisition of online costumes retailer BuyCostumes Inc., No. 204 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites. “This acquisition furthers Liberty's strategy of adding brands and web businesses that can benefit from video and cross-promotion and exposure to Liberty Interactive's customers,” the company says.
