E-commerce spending on Visa cards outside the U.S. hit $65 billion in 2005

E-commerce spending on Visa cards outside the U.S. totaled $65 billion in 2005, up 44% from $45 billion in 2004, according to Visa International. Visa processed 650 million e-commerce transactions million outside the U.S. last year, a 44% increase from 450 million transactions at year-end 2004.

Europe, formerly known as the European Union region, had the most e-commerce transactions outside the U.S. in 2005—375 million, up from 245 million in 2004. The Asia-Pacific region had 161 million transactions, up from 140 million in 2004; Canada, 73 million, up from 50 million; Latin America and the Caribbean, 33 million, up from 19 million; and Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, 4 million, up from 3 million.

Visa U.S.A.’s Gerry Sweeney, senior vice president, will speak at the Internet Retailer 2006 Conference on “Getting the Nervous Nellies to Shop Online.”
