Online spending on Visa cards rises 58% year-to-year for week ended Dec. 26

Online spending on Visa credit and debit cards surged 57.8% year-to-year for the week ended Dec. 26, to $1.83 billion from $1.16 billion, even though it dipped 1.1% year-to-year on Dec. 24, to $171 million, Visa says.

By comparison, total spending on Visa cards rose 31.8% for the week, to $25.38 billion, and 11.7% on Dec. 24 to $4.35 billion.

The number of e-commerce transactions on Visa cards rose 43.1% to 23.7 million for the week ended Dec. 26, and 8.4% to 2.6 million on Dec. 24. The total number of transactions on Visa cards rose 29% to 430.2 million for the week and 16.2% to 79 million on Dec. 24.

Visa also noted that e-commerce sales on its cards totaled $17.83 billion from Nov. 1 to Dec. 26, with an average ticket of $77.08. Visa includes b2c and b2b activity in its e-commerce spending and transaction figures.
