M-commerce workshop to cover all the bases

Bill Siwicki

Managing Editor, Mobile Commerce

We will again be offering the Mobile Commerce Workshop at the annual Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition in June. It originally was attended by pioneers, but today everyone needs to come. M-commerce is becoming inextricably interwoven with e-commerce, the world is moving to mobile, and retailers have to change with the times.

The theme of this year’s workshop is “How the mobile revolution is changing the way all retailers will do business.” Retailers are under pressure to create and move on mobile strategies today, not tomorrow. Smartphone adoption and mobile web use are soaring, and more consumers expect mobile-optimized experiences from every site they visit.

Workshop sessions run the gamut. “5 things you need to know about the iPhone” and “What you need to know about Androids” will walk attendees through the two most important mobile operating systems and show attendees how best to deploy sites and apps that make shopping easier for consumers with these devices.

“Designing a top-notch mobile customer experience”  will be presented by someone who has done just that—Will Pinnell, director of mobile commerce at Sabre Holdings/Travelocity. He also, by the way, is one of a small but growing number of e-retailing professionals whose entire job is focused on m-commerce.

“Can your e-commerce provider give you m-commerce expertise?” will dig into the major trend of retailers going mobile through new mobile functionality added on to e-commerce platforms by their e-commerce technology providers. There’s great potential with e-commerce providers that retailers cannot afford to overlook.

There are eight sessions with 12 speakers at the Mobile Commerce Workshop, held Friday June 17. Click here to get all the details. I’ll be moderating the day and hope to see you there. Whatever you do, don’t think mobile is just a fad. It’s the new world order.
