| Day Two: Feb. 1, 2008 |
2:15 - 3:00 p.m. Making web sites accessible to people with disabilities Lynne Brown,
Business Development Specialist, IBM Human Ability & Accessibility Center Pina D'Intino,
Sr. Manager, SMR & Accessibility, ScotiaBank The 10 million Americans with little or no vision represent a market too big to ignore. And besides potentially losing sales, an online retailer that does not take the visually impaired into account could face legal action. In fact, the National Association of the Blind has sued Target Corp. claiming that Target.com is not accessible to people with vision impairments. While the suit is still working its way through the courts, several retailers have taken notice and decided it's better to take steps now to make their sites accessible to persons with disabilities than to wait until a court decision comes down. This session will tell retailers what they need to know about accessibility, how to ensure their web sites are accessible to all and how they benefit from such accessibility. |
